Most matches in Gota.io play similarly to many other popular .io games: move around by pointing your mouse in the desired direction, consume energy blobs to level up and grow to enormous sizes. The bigger players can eat the smaller ones by running them over.
One of the more interesting mechanics of Gota io is the ability to split your blob into multiple smaller parts (which incidentally gives you a temporary speed boost) to avoid getting consumed by another player. That same move can also serve as an attack: if you see a blob that is at least four times smaller than you, you can split yourself in two throwing one of the halves at the enemy. The controls are pretty minimal: move your mouse around to direct your blob and press space to split.
