Deadlock Review
Greetings MOBA fans. In my opinion, there is no one left who hasn't heard about the new Deadlock game from Valve.
The gameplay of the product is a mix of Dota 2, Team Fortress 2 and Valorant. The match involves 2 teams of 6 people. At opposite ends of the map there are enemy bases connected by 4 lines. The task in the game is to destroy the enemy camp.
Release Date
Valve has not announced an official release date for the game. Since the beginning of summer 2024, the developer has been conducting closed playtesting, and on August 24 the public alpha testing was launched. Streamers were given the opportunity to broadcast Deadlock on streaming platforms, players were given the opportunity to participate in testing.
Latest patch
Valve releases updates almost daily with balance tweaks, game tweaks and bug fixes. The patches don't have numbers yet, like in Dota 2. The developers just give the date when the update was released. The last major patch I was able to test was released on August 30, 2024.
How to play
To the great regret of players, the product is not available around the clock. In the main menu you can find the schedule and hours of operation of servers by local time. I found out that you can change the server using console commands and play around the clock, but take into account that this will increase ping and it will be hard to enjoy the game.
Technical requirements
There are still no official technical requirements for the game. It is only known that Deadlock game will not work on 32-bit operating systems.
However, I can already give you approximate minimum PC requirements:
- CPU - Intel Core i5-4570;
- RAM - 8 GB;
- video card - Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050;
- HDD - 25 GB.
On the specified configuration I have the game running stable at 30 FPS.
Download Deadlock is directly from Steam. The product page is already available in the Launcher.
Problems with the game
Everyone knows that during alpha testing in games reveal a large number of bugs, Deadlock is no exception. During the playtest, users are constantly in touch with developers, point out common lags:
- black screen at startup;
- crash during a match;
- bugs and freezes.
For example, after installing the patch on August 30, my game selection stopped working, and many other players experienced the same problems.
Despite the problems and bugs, Deadlock Valve has a high online presence, peaking at over 100,000 users.
How to access the test
You can access the test only by inviting a friend. One player can invite an unlimited number of friends. If there are no friends who have Deadlock in Steam, you can ask for an invite in thematic Steam communities and Discord servers. Invites to Deadlock Steam do not come immediately. Usually you have to wait 1-2 days for an invite, in some cases longer. After receiving an invite, access to the game will be available in about 1-2 hours. Some players wait up to 48 hours for access, however, these are private cases. I was able to access the game within an hour.
How to invite friends
Deadlock's main menu on the bottom right of the screen includes the "Invite Friends" item, where you can choose who to send invitations to.
Reviews There are no reviews of Deadlock on Steam yet, as it is still in alpha testing in September 2024. But already now the majority of streamers and game journalists are positive about the game.
A beginner needs about 10 games to understand all the mechanics of Deadlock. I've played over 4000 hours of Dota, so my entry threshold was much lower. Enjoyment of the process came on the third game.
